Trust & Transparency

How Create Playing Cards presents evidence, specifications, editorial judgment and corrections in practical card-design guidance.

Create Playing Cards helps designers, artists, educators, event organizers and small publishers turn card-deck ideas into physical objects that are practical to print, handle, test and package. This page explains how to assess the information in our guides and how to raise a question or correction.

How to assess our information

Technical details should be specific enough to verify. For exact dimensions, bleed, safe areas, corner options, card stocks, coatings and packaging requirements, the relevant printer or manufacturer template is usually the most useful source. Production specifications can change, so check the provider’s current template before submitting final artwork.

Dates and context matter too. Time-sensitive details, including available materials, production options, pricing and turnaround, should be read in relation to when they were checked. Historical information is not a description of current availability unless an article clearly identifies it as current.

Evidence, examples and editorial judgment

We aim to keep measurable facts distinct from interpretation. A card’s dimensions, stock thickness or published coating are specifications. Statements about whether a finish looks subdued, whether a layout appears crowded or which format may suit a particular game are editorial judgments. Those judgments should connect to practical factors such as glare, readability, hand size, table space and handling.

Recommendations also depend on the intended use. Our comparison of matte and gloss card finishes separates surface appearance from stock, stiffness and texture. Our guide to testing card-layout readability offers a process for checking a design before committing to a larger print run. These guides are designed to show the reasoning behind a recommendation, not present a preference without context.

Corrections and questions

If you find a factual error, an outdated specification, a broken source or wording that does not clearly distinguish evidence from opinion, please let us know. Include the page URL, the passage in question and any relevant current source or manufacturer documentation.
